/PLANNER SPOTLIGHT: BLUE DAHLIA EVENTS
“You never know what it will lead to,” encouraged Kate’s husband. Kate was a was a stay at home mom, “retired” from large scale event planning and a career in higher education. A friend reached out and asked if she would be interested in helping at a wedding that weekend. Someone had bailed on them at the last minute and they knew she had experience.
Kate was hesitant but with the support of her family she agreed. After that weekend, Kate worked for the company for 5 seasons and ran the front end of the business for the last two. In 2018, Kate’s boss approached her about taking over.
Never dreaming that weekend would lead her here, Kate is now the owner of a day-of coordination company called Blue Dahlia Events. Please read on to learn more about Kate and her crew!
Who is your typical client?
We LOVE an organized bride that is laid back and just wants to have a blast on her wedding day! It warms our hearts when our clients realize that their wedding is a kick-off to a lifelong adventure of marriage.
Describe your design style or aesthetic.
Our brand and our style is very organic and authentic. With being a day-of coordination team, we do less of the styling and more of making your wedding vision come alive!
What sets you apart?
I believe that it's our ability to make people feel at ease--even at our first consultation. Our team and our style brings a calm to the craziness of wedding planning. Blue Dahlia is a wedding coordination company only, so we are able to focus on the client and their plans. Our clients will never have to play "second fiddle" to bigger planning clients. Between the attention to detail and the authentic and calm vibe we give off, we are able to make our couples feel relaxed and confident so that they can fully enjoy their day.
What is your most memorable career moment?
Honestly, it's watching all of our brides head down the aisle to their partner. It is so sweet to watch their nervous energy turn into celebration as they come back down the aisle!
Describe a time you saved the day or went above and beyond for a client.
We'd love to think we go above and beyond for all of our clients (sewing dresses, running out to buy a more comfy pair of shoes, assisting with family and friends, etc.). However, our first wedding of the year, our client broke her foot four days before the wedding. When something like this happens, it's an all hands on deck make it work, and make the best out of the situation! We made sure the bride was comfortable on the day of the wedding while still helping her to do all the things she wanted. It's all about anticipating the needs of the client before they actually need it (or think they need it)!
What (Where) is your favorite wedding venue and why?
We love Rhinegeist Brewery here in Cincinnati. It's a stunning venue that's got a great rustic industrial vibe. It's gorgeous as is but if you add your own personal touches to it--it really transforms the space. It has been incredible to see how all of our clients have transformed the space! After the reception, you can head down to the taproom and continue the party, too! Plus, the team there is so easy to work with. It's a win-win!
What is your current favorite color combination?
Deep jewel tone reds and teals with a classic ivory/blush.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I love trying out new restaurants and hanging out with our team!
